Andrew Roe joins MCS Group as Design Manager

MCS Group has strengthened its technical team with the appointment of Andrew Roe as Design Manager, bringing almost four decades of construction design experience to support the delivery of our expanding portfolio of industrial and commercial projects.

Andrew’s career began at an architect’s practice, where he was offered the chance to complete an AutoCAD course. Having always been interested in design and drawing, he saw this as the perfect opportunity to extend his skills. Over the past 38 years, he has worked across architectural practices, M&E contractors, space planning, interior design and fit out, before spending the last eight years as Design Manager for a regional contractor delivering industrial developments across the UK.

He joined MCS Group after hearing positive feedback from contacts already within the business, including one former employee who had returned to the company, which, as he explained, “made me think MCS must be a good place to work. When I attended the interview, I found a modern head office with a good vibe.”

As Design Manager, Andrew coordinates the design team and ensures that designs align with the construction programme.

“No two days are ever the same here, which I enjoy. It makes the role demanding and satisfying,” said Andrew. “One day I’ll be on site, the next I’ll be working with consultants or reviewing designs in the office. My main challenge is making sure the design team keeps to the design and construction programmes by providing the information for each stage in plenty of time. I’d compare it to being a conductor of an orchestra: introducing each section at the right point and making the music come together.”

Currently, Andrew is working on several of our key developments, including the design and build development at Bristol Patchway Trading Estate and at Darlaston, where one building is being split into six units. He’s also about to start work on our Hanger Lane project, where a large building is being split into four units.

Summing up his first few months with the business, Andrew said: “MCS Group is a refreshing place to be. It’s a young, ambitious company that embraces technology, innovation and collaboration. Everyone is focused on working smarter while continuing to deliver high-quality projects for our clients.”

Outside of work, Andrew enjoys spending time with his family, attending classic and sports car shows with his father, keeping up with the latest technology and home cinema systems, and has recently completed a full renovation of his home.
